Do you remember when you first started your business?
How old were you?
How did you feel?
Scared, excited and all of those things?
Now, I wanted to give some context to a decision we made about our Christmas Cards that we sent out to our clients and key suppliers this year.
My friend and early childhood teacher Isabella Carter ran her first pilot school program CoolPreneurs in 2016.
With a total of 45 students, these young participants were exposed to developing an entrepreneurial mindset where children learn through their interests and through developing their own real world projects.
What a great initiative!
I am a big believer in small business in this country.
And to start at a young age, what an amazing foundation to build upon –whether they go and work for someone else or themselves!
(Plus, let’s be honest here, many kids don’t have the hang-ups that we as adults do with all our stories why we can’t do things!)
Isabella shared a facebook post about one of the participants, 11-year-old Owen who had designed and created Christmas Cards.
And I thought well, we need Christmas Cards and here is an opportunity I can support this young student with his card idea.
Finding out more about Owen, he loves to draw, writes stories, plays piano, cello and writes his own music – this is just one of his many ideas he will come up with I’m sure!
To me, these cards symbolize the start we all took to go into business in the first place.
The gamble, the exposure, and the vulnerability to put ourselves out there.
That takes guts!
Not just to start with an idea or a business, but every day despite the challenges and obstacles, the time away from your loved ones and all the sacrifices you’ve had to make, it’s a lot and you continue to do it.
We get it and know what that’s like.
So, what I wanted to say is, I hope that this Christmas you take stock of how far you’ve come from that initial idea you had for your business and consider all the people that have supported you along the way.
I sit here today, so incredibly humble and grateful by so many amazing souls that have supported us and been part of our journey so far.
And to our dear clients and suppliers that we work with, THANK YOU for choosing us and supporting another small business.
I cherish this more than you know and I hope that you see these cards as a way of getting in touch with your inner child entrepreneur and remembering how far you have come.
