In May 2020, Keap released a new feature to clear our data via set field values in campaign builder. This is available in both Infusionsoft and Keap Pro products – yaay! Previously to achieve this, you needed to setup an Action Set in Infusionsoft and it was not actually possible in Keap Pro at all. Not anymore!
Users can now use the Set Field Value function to clear existing field values out any data in any contact field.
Why Would You Want To Clear Out Existing Values?
There are three main reasons why this functionality can be helpful to your business.
1. Data Is No Longer Needed
The current information stored in a field is no longer relevant and needs to be removed. For example, let’s say you have a customer renewal date stored in a field, however they cancel, therefore that date is no longer applicable and should be cleared out.
2. Data Is Being Re-Submitted
The contact is going to be asked to provide the information again and again, so we need to be able to re-use this field. For example, let’s say you ask your customers every 6 months to write you some feedback. Instead of having to set up multiple custom fields to capture the feedback every time you reach out, you can use just 1 field and clear out after each time it’s been submitted. With this approach, you can reduce the number of custom fields you and have a way of constantly capturing this data. It’s important with this approach is that you make a note after each submission so there is a record of the comments that were provided at that time, but after that you can clear it out.
3. Remove Pre-Populating Data
One of the benefits of using internal forms (Smart forms in Keap Pro) as well as webforms being sent from an Infusionsoft email, is that if there is existing data on that contact’s record that will pre-populate the field. For example, if we already know their first name, that will pre-populate with existing data that you already hold for that person. For example, let’s use the feedback comments example above. If we were to send an email asking the contact to complete a feedback form and we hadn’t cleared out the past values, then whatever their response was last time, would be pre-populated. The contact may not update their responses and also it won’t be a great experience if they need to delete their last response themselves.

How To Clear Out Existing Field Values In Campaign Builder
Here are the step by step instructions on how to use the Set Field Value clear out functionality in Infusionsoft By Keap / Keap Pro.
1. Go into Campaign Builder and once you’re in a sequence, you’ll be able to click and drag the Set Field Value element into the sequence workflow.
2. Double click on the Set Field Value element to configure the function.
3. Select the field that you want to update and clear out a value on (note we’ve selected Person Type in this example, but you can clear out any contact field)
4. To clear/blank out the values that may already exist in this field, select the option “Clear Existing Field Value”
5. Mark the element ready by clicking on the Draft toggle button
6. Finish the campaign and publish
